York Racecourse is currently the “Northern Racecourse Of The Year” and has a long and distinguished history including hosting Royal Ascot in 2005 and the St Leger in 2006. The course hosts 17 days of racing throughout the year from the Dante Festival in May, through to the Finale in mid-October, including the famous Ebor Festival in mid-August.
York has been hosting horse racing for over 2000 years, since the Roman and Viking times. The first recorded racecourse in York was at Clifton Ings but racing moved to the current Knavesmire venue in 1730 and has been there ever since.
